the jungle is a skyscraper

The performance the jungle is a skyscraper by Stefanie Seibold and Teresa Maria Diaz Nerio, revolves around the costume politics of Sun Ra and the Arkestra.

the jungle is a skyscraper (crossed out) takes its title from a track on Ornette Coleman’s vinyl Science Fiction. The performance engages with the glitzy costume politics of Sun Ra on Gerrit Rietveld’s Zig-Zag Chairs, to initiate a performative discourse on othering and self-othering, systems of categorisation, form and anti-form, as well as scientific classification as othering machines-and gardens and Zoos as domesticating Western forms of display.
